1st TERM PROJECT: ENGLISH - ICT

SOCIAL MEDIA SWAY PROJECT
GUIDELINES:
  • Students work in pairs (or groups of three people, if necessary).
  • The teacher will assign one of the most popular social networks  (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram…) to each group.
  • Each group will do research about the assigned social network and prepare a Sway-presentation
  • f you do not have an account for the social network, create one (as you know, first you have to ask permission from your parents)
  • Before you start, make sure to log in the social network of your choice and capture several screens that will serve as material for your presentation. You can use "snipping tool" for this purpose (to take a screenshot in the cell phone you must use a key combination, see the last section for details)
  • In case you do not have permission to create the account, make a more general presentation about this topic with the following items;
  1.  How to connect
  2. The main features
  3. New features
  4. The main uses (keeping in touch with friends, keeping up with celebrities, listening to music, sharing ideas, keeping in touch with work colleagues…)
  5.  How has social media affected society
  6. Look at the document titled SocialNetwork (pdf file) and pick another topic.
Your Sway presentation must contain, at least, the following items:
  1. Several cards
  2. One video (you can also add videos that you have taken, or you can look for videos that suit your needs in Bing or YouTube by using the Insert Sources drop- down list)
  3. One tweet (you can copy an embed link for a Tweet that fits your needs from twitter.com and paste it into an embed card)
  4. Different types of groups (grid, slideshow, stack, etc.)
  5. Add a Gif Image (you can add animated GIFs to the heading)
Make sure to explore the different options for the display of all the above contents. By varying the way the information is presented, the result will be more compelling to the viewers and will better fit in your purposes.

A  PRESENTATION WILL BE HELD IN THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM AND YOUR ORAL SKILLS WILL BE ASSESSED.
DEADLINE: OCTOBER 31st

LAST SCHOOL YEAR POST

Dear Bretonians:

It is time for me to say goodbye to you.
Know the true value of time, snatch, seize, and enjoy every minute of it. No idleness, no laziness, never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
Use every day to the fullest.
Try to make someone smile, help someone, say a kind word to someone, dream things you'd like to do and work to make them possible. And, at the end of the day, be able to say, "Yes, I used the day, well."
Don’t be afraid to fail.
Keep reading and writing.
Trust yourself.  Believe you matter …
Above all, don’t forget:  show respect, own it, and be kind.
SO LONG DEAR BRETONIANS!

Remember to come visit me next year!😃

CROSS CURRICULAR PROJECT: ICT / ENGLISH

Dear Bretonians!
The following GUIDELINES  are part of our next project; María Vaquero, your ICT teacher will explain the process in the classroom.

Create an animated GIF related to an aspect of the English culture to post on your blog

An animated GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) file is a graphic image on a Web page that moves - for example, a twirling icon or a banner with a hand that waves or letters that magically get larger. In particular, an animated GIF is a file in the Graphics Interchange Format specified as GIF89a that contains within the single file a set of images that are presented in a specified order. An animated GIF can loop endlessly (and it appears as though your document never finishes arriving) or it can present one or a few sequences and then stop the animation. Animated GIFs are frequently used in Web ad banners.
It has been one of the most popular formats of images on the Internet for the past few years. These files are shared on social media and on instant messaging applications (or apps). As emoticons or emojis, gifs are used to transmit a feeling or emotion.

How to create an animated gif
There are many options:  The GIMP , Unfreez or gifmaker (http://gifmaker.me)
You must choose same sized images to obtain a uniform result.
Once you have selected the images, just select the order of appearance and the animation speed.
Insert a text related to Tomás Bretón to your image.
Finally, save the file as gif format.
Share  the image with Informatica.villamayor@gmail.com through Google drive.

How to create an animation from a video

There are many options: Format Factory or QGifer.

To create a gif from a video, insert the video URL and set the beginning and the end of the scene, and finally adjust the options: size, color and loop.
It is more advantageous to use a GIF than a small video.
Although we have the option to convey the same idea with a small video, GIF has technical and educational advantages to consider:
• Touch Play: The animated image is so small that it plays immediately even when viewed from the mobile phone. A video often requires action to start playing with a slight delay depending on the speed of our WIFI connection or the cellular network.
• Playing in the same email: Animated GIFs can be uploaded and displayed within an email in the same way you do with a normal image. In case you want to show a video in an email, given the size of the file, you have to enter a link for playback outside of the email, either on YouTube or another external platform. If the recipient of the email does not click on the link, you will lose your explanation.

For further information, ask María.

Once created, post your GIF in your BLOG-PORTFOLIO.                                       ENJOY!!!!
