UNIT 2 MAKING MONEY

ADVERTISING

ADVERTISING and marketing have been around a long time. From the days of medicine men driving cross-country in a covered wagon to Mad Men of the 1960s and today’s generation of data-driven and web marketing tactics much has changed. But the basis and strategies haven’t changed as much as we think. For a quick look, check out these videos :

COULD YOU POST IN YOUR BLOG SOME REALLY CATCHY PHRASES , TAGLINES OR SLOGANS? i'M SURE YOU KNOW THIS ONE:"JUST DO IT" (1988)
ENJOY!

Professional Services Fund Raising Auctions

This is a unique kind of Fund Raising Auction because instead of selling products, we sell “People“. Or at least we sell the “Services of People“. In today’s economy, money is tight for many individuals and sales are down for many businesses. But that doesn’t mean that they have to stop giving. Rather, nearly everyone has some type of skill, or provides some type of service, that can be sold to benefit your group or cause…and which costs them absolutely nothing except a little of their time. You simply need to become more creative in attracting sellable services for your Fund Raising Auction.
And many times a professional service can sell better than a physical product. For example:
  • A dentist can offer a teeth cleaning.
  • A golf instructor can offer private golf lessons.
  • A teacher can offer tutoring lessons.
  • A musician can offer guitar, piano, singing, or other musical lessons.
  • A limo owner can offer a night on the town.
  • A web designer can offer a simple template web site.
  • An artist can offer an individual or family portrait.
  • A cleaning service can offer a home or office cleaning.
  • A house painter can paint a room.
  • An airplane owner can provide a birds-eye view of the local community.
If someone doesn’t have a specific professional skill…they can still donate to the cause. For example:
  • Weed a garden.
  • Take out the trash.
  • Run Errands.
  • Watch and bathe pets.
  • Babysit for a child. And sit for an aged parent.
HAVE A LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND FIND SOME INFORMATION ABOUT POSSIBLE FUNDRAISING AUCTIONS IN YOUR TOWN , SALAMANCA, MADRID, ETC..AND POST IT IN YOUR BLOG. ENJOY!

SOCIAL MEDIA SWAY PROJECT
GUIDELINES:

  • Students work in pairs (or groups of three people, if necessary).
  • The teacher will assign one of the most popular social networks  (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram…) to each group.
  • Each group will do research about the assigned social network and prepare a Sway-presentation
  • f you do not have an account for the social network, create one (as you know, first you have to ask permission from your parents)
  • Before you start, make sure to log in the social network of your choice and capture several screens that will serve as material for your presentation. You can use "snipping tool" for this purpose (to take a screenshot in the cell phone you must use a key combination, see the last section for details)
  • In case you do not have permission to create the account, make a more general presentation about this topic with the following items;
  1.  How to connect
  2. The main features
  3. New features
  4. The main uses (keeping in touch with friends, keeping up with celebrities, listening to music, sharing ideas, keeping in touch with work colleagues…)
  5.  How has social media affected society
  6. Look at the document titled SocialNetwork (pdf file) and pick another topic.

Your Sway presentation must contain, at least, the following items:
  1. Several cards
  2. One video (you can also add videos that you have taken, or you can look for videos that suit your needs in Bing or YouTube by using the Insert Sources drop- down list)
  3. One tweet (you can copy an embed link for a Tweet that fits your needs from twitter.com and paste it into an embed card)
  4. Different types of groups (grid, slideshow, stack, etc.)
  5. Add a Gif Image (you can add animated GIFs to the heading)
Make sure to explore the different options for the display of all the above contents. By varying the way the information is presented, the result will be more compelling to the viewers and will better fit in your purposes.

A  PRESENTATION WILL BE HELD IN THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM AND YOUR ORAL SKILLS WILL BE ASSESSED.

UNIT 7

CLICK>FUTURE TENSES GAMES
GRAMMAR:BE ABOUT TO/ DUE TO/ LIKELY TO

BE ABOUT TO
Be about to is used to talk about things which are going to happen very soon:

I’m about to eat. Can I phone you back?

It is often used with just:

We’re just about to set off for a walk. Do you want to come?

When used in the past, be about to can refer to things that were going to happen but didn’t:

I was about to complain but he came over and apologized.

We don’t use be about to with time expressions:

I was about to call you.

Not: I was about to call you in ten minutes.x

BE DUE TO
Be due to is used to talk about things that are expected or planned to happen at a certain time. We often use it with a time expression:

Are you due to hand in homework today?

The train is due to arrive at Glasgow Central at 12:12.

BE LIKELY TO

Be likely to is used to talk about how probable things are:

Are parents who have a lot of money likely to spoil their children?

It is often used to make comparisons with words like more and less:

I think men are more likely to spend a lot of money on food than women are.

A: I liked Budapest as well.

B:Yeah. I’m probably less likely to go back there than to Prague.

We also use it’s likely followed by that + clause:

It’s likely that sales will rise.

We form the negative of be likely to and be likely that either with not or with unlikely.Unlikely is more formal:

The company is not likely to make a profit in the second half of the year.

People are unlikely to listen to him now because they know he lied.
