DESCRIBING A WORK OF ART

When we describe something, we want to give the reader a good idea of what it looks like.  When we describe a work of art we also want to describe its style and the mood that it portrays, as well as express our opinion.
We use adjectives when we write a description of a person, place or thing. When using more than one adjective, we write them in the following order:

OPINION - SIZE- AGE- SHAPE- COLOUR

Choose a work of art from the list below and give me your opinion about it: style, objects, people in it, mood....
And ENJOY!!

  1. Hi friends!
What do you think about these famous paintings?
"A Young Hare" was painted by Albrecht Durer. It shows a rabbit lying on the floor. The painting is very realistic, the rabbit looks real . The shapes are well defined.
The painting only has a rabbit. Its ears are upwards and it seems to be angry.
The rabbit is painted with colours like brown and black. He is lying on a light yellow background.
I like this painting because it's very well painted and it looks very real. This makes it different and beautiful.
    Bye!

  2. Hi guys!!!
I think these paintings are incredible because they are history and the paintings tell us a lot of about the people who had painted these.
The painting which I had choosen is "The Reader" this was painted by Jean-Honore Fragonard.
the painting show us a beautiful, young girl who was reading a book. This lady looked like a girl of the XVIII century.
The painting looks great and it will be great in the future because it is painting with a lot of precision and it's frantastic.
    It's great.
    See you tomorrow :)

  3. Hi everybody!
Between all the paintings that are in the webpage I have chosen the one called "Noah's ark", that was painted by Edward Hicks.
In the picture you can see how a lot of animals are organized in pairs, one male and one female, and they are going into a big, brown wooden ark. At the backside you can see how a lot of birds are also entering the ark, running away from the big storm that is taking place there, flooding the entire world.
The picture is painted in a simple way, there aren't many details. The colours are not very bright, and I think that is because it represents a tragedy, in which a lot of people died (if it had been real), so the painter didn't want to express happiness with the painting.
I have chosen this piece because when I was a child I liked the story a lot, as it was filled with animals, but I didn't realize that it was a tragic story till I got older.
    Bye!

  4. Hi guys! whats up?
I have chosen ''Light at two lights'' that is painted by Edward Hopper. It called my attention because it represents a cute landscape and I really want go to a place like that with his lighthouse and all of these things that places near the sea can bring to us. Just imagine how has to be to walk near the landscape that the painting portrays.
We can see some old houses and a high lighthouse in a sunny day somewhere.
It's great how we appreciate the houses nearer the lighthouse but it's because the way that is painted and how the painter made it.
It's made by simples and soft colors.
One the things that I like most is how it can transmits you peace and confort.

  5. Greetings!
I have chosen a painting made by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, it is called ST. GEORGE AND THE DRAGON.
We can observed a tall young lad fignhting against a dragon. The painting is not realistic because the dragons have never existed. The piece is simultaneosly luminous and intensive because it has a lot of bright colours.
It is from the Baroque because of the efect light called and chiaroscuro and because the figures take on eloquence
It combing form, colour and movement and these insinuate that the painting is realistic and was painted in the moment that the incidents were happening.
    Have a good one

  6. Hi mates! How are you doing?
I've chosen the painting called Rocky Mountains Lander's Peak, because I like it a lot and cause it seems to be very real, so you can imagine you are in this heavenly landscape.
It was painted by a very talented Prussian painter called Albert Bierstadt, in 1958, during his first trip through the West Side of the United States.
It is a beautiful, large, old and colorful picture, that combines basically different blues, greens and greys.
At the bottom of the picture, we can see many high mountains with much snow. Then, nearly, we can see a waterfall that leads into a lake, that is in the middle of the picture.
Then, there is a little meadow with some trees where animal are eating, and where people had built their homes.
    Bye dudes!

  7. Hi everybody!!!!
I chose the picture "Marriage Feast at Cana" that was painted by the official artist for the court, Juan de Flandes in 1500.
This work was done in oil and painted in wood. The painting represent Jesus and Mary, his mother, that are attending a wedding feast.
The characters that appear are reprsenting by a very realistc form.
We can observe that thaye are in a room very well represent and in the room are people talking and a man with vessels of some liquid.
The art work is a colorful work of art like the yellow, red or white, this colors contrasts with Jesus and Mary clothes´.
In my opinion, is a great painting that represent perfectly Jesus and Mery. The painter, try to used colorful colors. It is very nice.
    Bye :)

  8. Hi everybody!!
The painting I have chosen is M.LOULOU by Paul Gauguin. It shows a kid, squat next to a beautiful, big, red, pink and purple flower and surrounding them there are big, round and white dandelions.
If you look at the kid, you will think he/she is a normal kid but if you use your imagination you will appreciate that the kid may be an adult but in a small world, I mean, this person can be older than we if we are talking about age, but he/she may be smaller than we if we are talking about height. This painting can use the same “story” as “Pulgarcito” or “Alice in Wonderland”.
About the painting in general: it’s not realistic because reality isn’t like that but I like it.
    Bye Xx :)

  9. Hiiiii! The painting I chose is named "Water Lilies (The Clouds" by Claude Oscar Monet. at first I didn't know which one to choose, because when I first got into the page my first thought was "Oh, what a shame. This seems like an antique paintings page" and yay, I was right. Well, for starters I'm not exactly fond of ancient art -mostly because I'm a badass myself and these paintings are usually a little bit plain and conventional, which. Nope- and I didn't know where to begin with, so I just got with the flow and read the names to see if anyone inspired me, and even though they always say "Don't judge a book for its cover" I just did,sue me. So I chose that one painting mostly because of luck, fate or whatever you want to call it, and I think I made such a right choice because when the picture got bigger the air left my lips and I stood in front of my computer mouth-fishing; and it's just, I just love nature and the water so when I took a look at the picture I was astonished. The painting might look like a boring masterpiece, and although I prefer ten times more modern art and graffiti -those free minded masterpieces that make you want to travel the world and make big things- this one picture is a peaceful smooth work of art, because sometimes you just need that reassurance and plainness after a stressful day at work, when you feel like the times leaves you behind and the world is trying to eat you alive these kind of painting, fresh and so natur -ish that irradiates warmness all over your body. It's a simple work, really, just the mirror of a spectacular green forest on the pure glassy water of an alive pond. It may be it for some people, but when I look at it -and the title might have hepled a little, heh- I just see all shades of blue and pink and white; beautiful cotton clouds making their way to the bottom of the never ending lake. I don't know, I'm probably just being silly, but for me it feels as if the clouds were underwater and the world was built around it, drowned, as if the painter was trying to represent that we have some sort of scape, that after the clouds there is a world waiting for you to get your head out and gasp for air, feel what really live is and know what is to finally breathe without feeling as if you were being drowned.
And, yass, I'm just rambling so I'm going to stop talking, like now, or else you all people will be mean tomorrow because "Rocio you just write too much blahblahblah"
    So.
    Byeeeeeeee. X.

  10. Hi!!
I have choosen THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS LANDER'S PEAK painted by Albert Bierstadt.
I have to say that I prefer abstract art or contemporany art, but when I saw this picture...I was impressed.
Everything looks so natural and realistic. You can see at the bottom the blue sky blending with the white big mountais but at the same time everything has his own shape.
When I see all the trees and the water of the waterfall I can feel the calm that the place emanate. Just with look at the paint a want to be there.
Also there are a lot of people with tents, maybe indians.
In general the painting is so perfectly drawn, with a lot of details. With that we can know that the artist is very perfectionist. In general it looks like a photo.
I love so much this picture because it convey tranquility but, precisely the part that I like more it's the center of the painting with the lake because it reflects everything, like the real water.
It is a really work of art.

    See you soon

  13. Hi mates!!
I choose Manuel Osorio de Zuniga drawing by Francisco Goya because I see a little child and that brings to my mind when I was little to, the child is holding a thread it looks like he is playing wild Francisco was painting he.
Behind them there are some cats and below his feets there is a bird but I can't distinguish what kind of bird is. To my rigut there is a cage with more birds but this time smaller than the other ones. The background is very dark and there is contrast betwen the palid face of the guy and the background. The boy is wearing a red shirt and red pants.
This is an oil painting it measures 110 cm high by 80 cm wide, the portraitis the youngestson of D.Vicente Isabel Osorio de Moscoso and it is on the metropolitan museum of New York.
The painting is so normal but i like it because Goya painted the guy like a doll and the animals have all a symbolic content.

  14. Hi!!!!!
A YOUNG HARE is my favourite picture of the list. It was painted by Albert Dürer a german painter borned in Nûremberg. This picture is very simple compare with others pictures that are more colourful and complicates and this one. I don´t know why, but I choose this one as an unknowing reason. May be it is because of its realistic way of painting. It was painted with watercolors, first, making a brown and uncertain shape. Later, Dürer started to colour and to defiened the hare with little brush-stakes with black, white and brown colours the fur of the animal. The painter make it looks real, drowing in its pupil a reflection, that investigators and scholars think that could came from Dürer's study.
